QUESTION:
How do I crochet a functional potholder?
I would like to crochet a pot holder. I found a nice pattern that is a basic circle. The thing is that I would like the potholder to be functional. Is that possible to make a crocheted potholder that is actually useful, rather than just to look nice? Is it dependent on what kind of yarn I use?-
ANSWER:
Pick a pattern without large holes (preferably single crochet), larger than you think it needs to be, and preferably two layers thick, and crochet it out of wool. Wool is naturally flame retardant and will not transfer the heat to your hands.

QUESTION:
Sea creatures themed potholders?
Anyone have a pattern for sea creature themed pot holders? (i.e. Lobster, crab, sword fish, seashells...?)Thanks
-
ANSWER:
Any pattern will do. You are just going to use fabric with those designs on them.
You can get a pattern, or just take a pot holder from your home and trace the shape of it on to paper.
Then buy fabric in the design you like. Look at Joann's or a local fabric store.
I then like to buy cheap batting, put it under the fabric and "quilt" it on in a couple of crossed lines w/ a sewing machine. If you want to go high end, buy some ironing board fabric (about a yard but you don't need much) for the side that does down on the grill or oven. When you have both sides picked out take the shape (square or mitt shaped) and sew it wrong sides together on a sewing machine. (leave one side unsewn so you can turn it inside out.)
Turn it inside out and hand or machine sew the last seam closed. Easy.

QUESTION:
Easy Crochet Projects...Beginner Friendly?
I just learned to crochet from my aunt on the 21st and
I've really picked it up quite fast! I made my mom some
pot holders for Christmas and working on a granny square
blanket now. I can also make scarves.Does anyone know
of some really easy crochet projects I could try out next?
I love to make blankets, can anyone find me a different pattern
(not granny square style) that's easy to make? Much appreciated!-
ANSWER:
This is my favourite pattern for afghans and baby blankets. It is all single crochet and chain st. It looks amazing and everyone thinks it is difficult because of the ripple effect but it just goes that way from the combination of stitches.
I made a scarf in this pattern to try it out. The colour combinations are endless.

QUESTION:
How do I begin to knit this cardigan?
Would someone like to help a "beginner to intermediate" knitter? I would really appreciate it and I will pray God Almighty blesses you for your graciousness.. My mother in law from India, Christian beautiful family, I want to knit her a cardigan only thing is I have only ever knitted blankets, baby booties, and pot holders...I have never made a sweater. Could someone please go through with me and explain to me the process. I will be knitting each piece separately correct? And then at the end I will piece it all together? This makes sense to me when it is explained this way...the pattern is below.Do I start with "the back" piece first? And when that is done do I set it aside and start another piece?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to suprise my mother in law ! She is the size Large if this helps.
Thank you!

The angora blend yarn used to knit this sweater has great stitch definition so the pattern and cables are very crisp. It's soft, does not shed, and is machine washable. It's light weight and the short sleeves make it perfect for warmer weather.
The cables on each side are reversed; you can see close ups of them here.

QUESTION:
How can I knit this coaster bigger?
I would like to make this coaster bigger using the same pattern. I would not use it as a coaster for cups in this case but have an idea for my mother in law to use it for the table when she transfers pots and pans and has tea time with the kettle etc. While there are pot holders for that, I particularly think she will like this one and know what to do with it hehe.
A larger one of this design would be so wonderful. Can this pattern be altered and could you teach me how to alter the entire pattern not just answering "cast on more" because I believe the rest of the pattern will change also. Thank you for your help and JESUS bless you !Here is the pattern:

QUESTION:
What should we sell? Please read all...?
My friend and I have become fairly good knitters over the last year and now we could both use a little extra cash, so we were thinking we would open a part-time, knitting business. My question is, what should we make; what would you as a hypothetical cutomer be interested in buying? Also please comment on sample prices below:
pair of baby socks and a baby hat -
adult-sized hat with interesting pattern -
novelty scarf -
simple shawl or shoulder wrap -
What items would you pay a little extra for, which ones would you NOT pay a little extra for?
So far, I think socks are a bad idea. I think they can be wonderful gifts for firends, but not even I would pay a bunch of money for hand-knitted socks from a stranger when I could buy a comfy, less-expensive pair at the store. I also think washcloths and pot holders would be a little slow to sell (how much would you be willing to pay for something like a knitted pot holder?)
And I was thinking hats, scarves, baby clothes, simple children's sweaters, women's/children's shrugs and boleros would do fine. Maybe some headbands? Please keep the responses clean!
Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
They could all work. Even the socks. Especially if the economy improves and people have some extra spending money.Everything you describe is for sale today on etsy . com ( i don't work for them). Competition is tough since there are already lots of sellers. But there are also lots of buyers who want quality things.
The adult hat with interesting pattern could get you discovered.

QUESTION:
crochet a dog sweater?
My mom has a slender tall chihuahua that weighs about 7 lbs. I want to crochet him a little sweater out of some fuzzy yarn I have. I have only made blankets, pot holders, wash cloths, etc. So I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I have seen patterns, but I dont really understand them fully. Also I want the sweater to have sleeves too. I noticed some online that dont have them.

QUESTION:
How do you combine knitted sections for a blanket?
I began knitting earlier this year and I love it! So far I've been only knitting smaller pieces like scarves, pot holders, etc but now I've decided to work on my first big project. I was in the middle of knitting an extra wide scarf for myself, and I realized the soft wool would make a great blanket for my sister's birthday coming up. It's only a simple wide rib stitch, and I was wondering how could I go about converting it into a blanket? Should I knit all the sections separately and then combine them all at the end or is there a way I can simply make it wider with a different color? I know how to add new balls of yarn, but I wasn't sure if its possible to attach horizontally? Would love to hear any suggestions or patterns you think could help me out!!
-
ANSWER:
There are two methods to using panels in a blanket. Since you have already made your wide scarf, you can make several in different colours, and then sew them together using several different stitches for that seam. This is easier to do since you don't have the whole blanket in your hands... it can get too big and cumbersome! The other method is to knit it all in one piece, changing colours along the row. It's called Intarsia... look it up. It's very easy to do. But you need to know what your final design is because you can't change your mind later on. It's also very large and hard to handle. But for some designs that is what you have to do.

So, my mom has tried for about 23 years to teach me to knit. Now that i'm a mom, i've picked it up and wished I'd listened and showed a bit more interest. I can do a basic stitch and have no problem knitting a blanket or pot holder. Probably could do a scarf too but when its never cooler fhan 70, not very practical.Anyhow, I don't know how to read patterns, and I'm bored with a basic stitch. Can anyone point to some free web sites that help teach or instruct on learning more than the basic casting on and basic stitch?

QUESTION:
what color sheets/pillowcases should i get?
My room is painted turquoise, a bold colour indeed. I have medium-light natural wood furniture, though i want to paint my furniture either chocolate brown or white.overall, the decor is rather eclectic, though leaning towards shabby chic. I have a very large french country blue and white vase filled with large peach roses and small white and baby pink flowers, its kinda the center piece, surronded by a couple other more colour full vases/pots from latin america.
My bookshelf is organized into decorative boxes and paper holders that are chocolate brown with white floral pattern. I also plan on getting more victorian/baroque style picture frames in white and/or chocolate brown.
Im in dire need of updating my bedding. I currently have a white quilt with black outline of dainty victorian flowery pattern and dark gray stripes. I would like sheets and pillows to complement this quilt, or I may get a duvet + duvet cover instead.
I already have chocolate brown sheets that I think look amazing, but I want to switch to satin or sateen sheets for the summer. Im also thinkng I could get more pillows in complementary colours/patterns?
so what would look best: light pink sheets, platinum/silver sheets or dark chocolate sheets? Or any other ideas?
To help visualize my room, I've made a swatch of colours and patterns already found in my room, on the left, and satin sheets or other elements I want to add more of in my room. colours may not be exact as everyone's monitor is different.

QUESTION:
I struggle with grammar and punctuating Dialogue, can you?
Hi, so this is a small part of my book, will you read through it and tell me if the punctuation in the Dialogue is correct and also the grammar? Thanks xThey walked down the cobbled street of the Royal Mile until they found the cafe. Luca opened the glass door and stood aside for Catherine to enter. His eyes searched the room for the table he was eager to find empty, and smiled when he discovered it unoccupied. The familiar red table cloth draped off the sides and the little faux white rose was still positioned in the middle. Luca pulled out the black metal chair and it screeched along the laminate flooring causing him to cringe.
“Sorry, honey,” he said, gesturing for her to sit down.
Catherine smiled and tucked her hands under her skirt before taking a seat. Luca sat down opposite and handed his wife the menu.“No, I don’t need it,” she said, shaking her head. “I already know what I’m ordering.”
“You do?” Luca asked. “You haven’t even looked at it.” He took the menu from Catherine’s hand and placed it back in its silver holder, next to the salt and pepper pots.
“Yes, honey, but I’m just going to order what we ordered on our first date,” she continued.
“You can’t eat curry at eleven o’clock in the morning, Catherine!”
“Watch me,” Catherine said as she signalled for the waiter to come and take her order. He was short and his black hair was styled into a middle pattern, his white shirt had no creases in it and the pocket on his black waist coat was home to a pad and pen. He reached for the paper and held it in his hand as he asked, “yes, what would you like, miss?”
“Eh, sorry but that’s, Mrs,” Catherine said as shook her left hand in the air.
“I do apologize, Mrs?”
“D’Angelo,”
“Unusual name, I presume you are ready to order?”
“Yes, I would like the chicken curry, please,” Catherine asked as she smiled at Luca.Luca watched Catherine order and his thoughts turned to their first date. He had planned it for two months before he built up the courage to do it. He would go over the plan in his head every night as she lay sleeping, he thought about it every day when he was not with her. How would he explain ‘bumping’ into her? Was it against the rules for him to contact her when he was in human form? Would she even like him? ‘It couldn’t be against the rules’ he thought. Why would he have been allowed to make contact the first time in human form if he wasn’t allowed to make contact again?
-
ANSWER:
I like your writing. Grammar is generally fine, of course you would indent the speech but you can't do that on Y!A so that's fine. Two little things, A capital Y is needed for the first word of the waiter's dialogue "Yes, what would you like miss?
he thought about it every day - tense suggests that you think about it every day at present, replace it with he would think about it every day, suggests that you did at one particular time think about it everyday.
If you are placing thoughts into speech marks, treat them as dialogue, so use a comma after 'rules'.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: To the answerer below, surely the comma at ', and smiled' differentiates the two clauses. It reads fine.

Luca sat down opposite and handed his wife the menu.“No, I don’t need it,” she said, shaking her head, “I already know what I’m ordering.”
“Watch me,” Catherine signalled for the waiter to come and take her order. He was short and his black hair was styled into a middle pattern, his white shirt had no creases in it and the pocket on his black waist coat was home to a pad and pen. He reached for the paper and held it in his hand as he asked, “yes, what would you like miss?”
“Eh, sorry but that’s Mrs,” Catherine said as shook her left hand in the air.
“I do apologize, Mrs?”
“D’Angelo,”
“Unusual name, I presume you are ready to order?”
“Yes, I would like the chicken curry, please” Catherine asked as she smiled at Luca.Luca watched Catherine order and his thoughts turned to their first date. He had planned it for two months before he built up the courage to do it. He would go over the plan in his head every night as she lay sleeping; he thought about it every day when he was not with her. How would he explain ‘bumping’ into her? Was it against the rules for him to contact her when he was in human form? Would she even like him? ‘It couldn’t be against the rules’ he thought. Why would he have been allowed to make contact the first time in human form if he wasn’t allowed to make contact again?
I have just noticed a few mistakes, sorry I am sleepy lol x

QUESTION:
Want points for editing and comments on my poem? Title "Nana"?
My Nana is special
My Nana's so nice
When it comes to sewing,
she doesn't think twice...
She's a wizard with a needle
she could sew the night away
Crochet you a blanket and have it
warming your lap almost the very next day...
She's a non-stop amazement of talent
Her creations are more than a simple hobby,
their a genius work of art!
Give her an idea for Cross-stitch,
she can hardly wait to start...
She has a passion for patterns
Every stitch in made with love
She'll whip yha out a pot holder
And embroider it with a dove...
Tell her the colors you like and she'll start blending
spools of thread
Before you can finish the verse
to Supercalafradulistic, you'll have a
beautiful new spread upon your bed...
With Wallhangings, ornaments and dishtowels too
there's nothing at a fabric store
that she can't make for you...
So here's 3 cheers for my Nana & a Hip! Hip! Hurray!!
Just wanted you to know that I was thinkin'
of you today!
